This seminar will critically examine the role of state in the context of digital transformation the viewpoint of comparative political economy. Competing models of economic development reflect historical legacies and institutional characteristics of different societies, leading to alternative patterns of socio-economic development. The Chinese model of socialist market economy also embraces unique historical conditions and policy responses that China has experienced in its development trajectory. China faces many challenges such as climate change, job creation, and technological competition and trade conflict with US in the process of developing the digital economy. This seminar will highlight the dual missions of the state in the digital economy, namely entrepreneurial and inclusive for achieving innovation and sustainable development during the 4th industrial revolution.
